Gene Brawl Stars Guide — Best Build, Magic Hand Timing & Tips 2025
Complete Gene guide for Brawl Stars: how to land the Magic Hand grab, best gadgets, star powers, modes and counters.
Gene is a Mythic Support brawler with one of the most game-changing supers in Brawl Stars: the Magic Hand. When charged, Gene fires a magic hand that grabs an enemy from anywhere on the map and pulls them to Gene's location. One successful grab can decide an entire match.
Mastering the Magic Hand
The Magic Hand is a long-range projectile that grabs the first enemy it contacts. Landing it consistently separates average Gene players from great ones.
Tips for landing the grab:
- Target retreating enemies — a brawler running in a straight line is easier to lead than one weaving.
- Aim at doorways and choke points — enemies must pass through these; predict their path.
- Pull to allies, not to yourself — the grabbed enemy should land surrounded by 2–3 teammates, not alone with Gene.
- Pull the back-line threat — Poco, Byron, Musketeer, Sandy. Removing their healer changes the fight instantly.
Best Modes for Gene
| Mode | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Gem Grab | ✅ Excellent | Pull the gem carrier into your team for an instant kill |
| Knockout | ✅ Excellent | One grab = one elimination in a mode with no respawns |
| Brawl Ball | ✅ Strong | Pull the ball carrier out of a goal run |
| Hot Zone | ✅ Good | Pull enemies off the capture point |
| Bounty | ⚠️ Situational | Grab is hard to land across long open corridors |
| Heist | ❌ Weak | Gene's damage output is too low for direct safe attacks |
Best Build
Gadget: Lamp Blowout — Gene pushes away all nearby enemies. Use it when pulled (or when diving into a cluster of enemies that threaten to surround him).
Star Power: Magic Puffs — Gene's attacks heal teammates near him. This passive healing makes Gene a walking heal-station in 3v3 — position him near the fight, not in it.
Gene's Attack: Split Shot
Gene fires a compact burst that splits after a short distance into 9 pellets. Up close, all pellets hit one target for massive damage. At range, the spread makes it a zoning tool.
The optimal Gene damage range is 4–7 tiles — just past the split point but before the spread becomes too wide.
Counters
Hard counters: Edgar, Mortis, Leon — any assassin who can close on Gene before he can grab. Gene's short-range defense is weak.
What Gene beats: Back-line supports and squishy snipers who rely on distance — a grab removes that distance advantage entirely.
